Over the past week, I found a deliciously easy to get downgraded in Google’s page ranking.
It was so easy, and with only a few clicks, and by following my technique you can do the same! (Sorry to scammers for pinching one of your favourite lines
) and my way is free, you don’t even have to opt-in to find out.
As some of you already know, I had a problem with my blog last week, and had to do some serious remedial work. This involved replacing all my old posts which I thought worthy of replacing.
So, with my right hand controlling the right click on my mouse, and choosing ‘select all’ from the menu, and my left hand controlling the ctrl, c, and v keys on the keyboard, I was set. (See, I am ambidextrous too… roll eyes)
Now, I was set, and with my fingers working furiously, I selected, copied and pasted, washed rinsed and repeated, until I had those posts replaced, and bingo my blog was up and running again.
However, Google was not impressed by my finger work, and must have thought I was a spammer spamming myself, and reduced my PR from 2 to 1.
A drop of 1 in PR may not seem a big deal, but when other marketers are looking for blogs to have backlinks from, then PR can become very important, and that drop of 1 could mean I am losing out on some worthwhile backlinks.
All I can do now is keep some tissues handy and keep wiping my nose so it is clean, and hope that in the fullness of time Google will see fit to give me my PR2 back.
Well, that was a lesson learned in one easy step, and for those fellow marketers who weren’t aware of this, I hope it will be of some help to you.
See, I told you this would be free, with no opt-in required.

Hm, Barry, that sounds like no fun at all. Maybe if you change the wording of the content here and there Google will see it as fresh and new? Good luck.

Hi Leora,
Thanks for your concern, I appreciate it. I did consider rewording it, but I would consider myself hypocritical as I dislike seeing similar articles everywhere with just a few words changed here and there. I shall just have to get to a high standard and maintain it,
Barry
Hi Barry.
There is an appeal process that you can go through if you get sandboxed. I wonder if you might be able to go through a similar process for this problem.
Only problem is, I’m not sure how but I’m sure if you search you will find some info. It has to be worth a quick look and a try.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for that advice, mate, I will go and have a look, although knowing Google’s reputation for appeals, I don’t hold out much hope, still anythings worth a shot,
Barry
Everything will get better, Barry! Sometimes sites flip flop back and forth between PR 1 and 2 – really for no explanation. I don’t think your site was down long enough for them to really figure that into play.
Keep smiling and continue what you are doing, things will get better, Barry

Hi linda,
thanks for the encouragement. I never cease to be amazed at how the IM blogging community, on the whole, are supportive and helpful for no other reason than they enjoy it,

Hi Barry
I am sorry you had problems, but at least you are back up and running.
As far as I am aware, Google don’t actually penailse duplicate content as such. They only credit the content once to the site that has the highest PR.
I am sure your PR will be back to normal soon.

Hi Dee,
Thanks for your visit and comment,
It is reassuring to know that Google won’t be penalising me for repeating my posts and that everything will be back to normal again,
Barry
Hi there Barry, its kind a sad to know that you have lose 1 ranking last week, but I am sure that the remedial that you did will work for you to get back the other rank,To be honest I don;t have any rank at Google but basing on my experience duplicating my content can be considered as copy-scape even though I wrote it myself. all I can say that Google is so much strict regarding to their rules.

Hi Kate,
Thanks for your visit and comment, and special thanks for your encouragement.
I agree, you have to be careful about how you distribute articles, but there are other ways to get your articles broadcast, like twitter and facebook.
I just visited your website and you are a Google PR2 and an Alexa ranking of 809,552, so better than you thought, good for you,
Barry
Hi there Barry I never visited my site lately , so I didn’t notice that it is rank 2 in Google, well anyway thanks for visiting my site. Maybe I should freshen up my site again. or I should put another new article.

Well, I am sorry to know that you had to go through this experience to share it with us. But i think that major changes on your blog posts and topics could badly effect your blog, I mean you used to have a PR of 2, what if you had a higher PR, I think the effect would be much better. When you remove old posts you loose all the backlinks that were built for your blog and this is the same when you do URL redirect or change your blog URL

Hi,
Thanks for your visit. There is no teacher like experience, and that experience has ensured I WON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN.
Higher PR would have been nice, but ultimately, we do what we can and as long as we get good visitors that, I believe is equally important,
